Former Chelsea winger Yury Zhirkov has shrugged off criticism of his move to Anzhi.
Manchester United legend Kanchelskis says Yury Zhirkov has bottled it by quitting Chelsea.
"Let people say what they like," said Zhirkov, having also been pursued by more established clubs such as Zenit St Petersburg, Dynamo Moscow and Rubin Kazan.
"For me the most important thing is football. 'The decision was very difficult because Chelsea are a top club, playing in and winning the most prestigious tournaments.
"But the prospect of sitting on the bench more than playing, which was still real at Chelsea, I didn't like.
"Another season like that and the footballer Zhirkov could probably have been forgotten.
"And there were some problems at home in London, too. When I landed in Russia everything as clear, that the moved was better not only for me but also for my family, whose interests come first."
