Zenit make offer but Newcastle an option for Man City boss Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini has reportedly been offered the job at Zenit Saint Petersburg.

It is believed that the Russian club have made contact with the Chilean who will leave Manchester City at the end of the season when he is replaced by Pep Guardiola.

Zenit will part ways with Andre Villas-Boas after a disappointing domestic campaign which sees the reigning Russian Premier League champions currently sitting sixth on the table, however, they are still alive in the Champions League Round of 16 after a 1-0 first leg loss to Benfica.

The Daily Mail is reporting that despite Zenit's overtures, which is believed to be a two-year deal at £3.09million-per-year, Pellegrini is contemplating staying in England with the Newcastle United job now a surprise option.

Steve McClaren's future at St James' Park is under a very dark cloud and he is expected to be sacked if the Magpies fail to avoid relegation but a drop down to the Championship would almost certainly rule out Pellegrini who is keen on remaining in the Premier League if possible.
