The Daily Mail says Alex is wanted by Russian team Zenit St Petersburg.
Zenit's Italian manager Luciano Spalletti contacted the Stamford Bridge club personally to ask about the prospects of signing the 28-year-old.
Alex, capped 17 times for Brazil, dropped behind new signing David Luiz in the pecking order for central defensive places after suffering a thigh injury.
