Zenit St Petersburg defender Nicolas Lombaerts denies he failed a Sunderland medical.

Sunderland had claimed the defender had failed a medical after scans revealed a knee problem.

But Lombaerts hit back saying: "I took the decision myself. I didn't want to join Sunderland.

"The story about a failed medical is untrue. I want to stay in Russia. With Zenit, we fight for trophies every season."
