Walter Zenga admits he received contact from Inter Milan over the summer.
Zenga was among the candidates for the job before Gian Piero Gasperini's ill-fated appointment.
"I received a call from Inter, shortly before the arrival of Gasperini was made official," said the former Catania and Palermo coach.
"I am happy with what I am now doing, but taking off my coaching hat and as an Inter fan I hope Ranieri can stay as long as possible, it would mean that the team is back to their best."
