Japan national team coach Alberto Zaccheroni has named a preliminary squad of 28 for next month’s Asian Cup.

Japan national team coach Alberto Zaccheroni has named a preliminary squad of 28 for next month’s Asian Cup.

The Italian tactician has been forced to leave out star defender Marcus Tulio Tanak who is injured but has been able to draft in 11 overseas-based players.

CSKA Moscow’s Keisuke Honda, Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa, Cesena’s Yuto Nagatomo and Wolfsburg’s Makoto Hasebe have all been included in the squad that will be trimmed to 23 on December 28.

"There are so many good players that it was not easy to narrow the list to 50," Zaccheroni said. "It naturally includes many young players as we have set our sights on the 2014 World Cup."
