The Australia U20s team have been beaten 2-1 by El Salvador in their second 2013 FIFA U20s World Cup match in Rize, Turkey.
Despite the Young Socceroos going ahead in the 9th minute courtesy of a stunning 30-yard Josh Brillante strike, they could not stop the Salvadorans scoring twice before the break through Diego Coca and Jose Pena.
The defeat leaves Australia sitting at the foot of the Group C table but they can still qualify for the knockout stages provided they beat hosts Turkey in their final group stage match and hope Colombia avoid defeat to El Salvador.
Young Socceroos boss Paul Okon was still holding hope of his side clinching a spot in the next phase.
"I thought we had enough possession to come up with something, especially in the second half," he said.
"We made two defensive mistakes. The cheap first goal to give away was disappointing.
"Now we must win our last game against Turkey. But congratulations to El Salvador they deserved it.
"Our attitude was good. We got an early goal, which we spoke about, and we gave away a cheap goal. Against good opposition at a World Cup you can't do that.
"The effort was superb and although we are disappointed we move on and try and win our last game."
Australia drew 1-1 with Colombia in their first match with 16-year old ace Daniel de Silva on target whilst Turkey beat El Salvador 3-0 before losing 1-0 to Colombia.
