Young Player of the Year May: St Johnstone's cup final will be best day of my life

Newly-crowned Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year Stevie May cannot wait for the Scottish Cup final.

The 21-year old striker, who landed the prize on the back of his 27 goals in all competitions this term, will go into battle with the Saints in the May 17 cup final against Dundee United at Celtic Park.

Ahead of that monumental fixture, May said he was eagerly anticipating what could be the biggest day in the Perth clubs history and no doubt in his career.

"Officially I'm taking each game as it comes because that's what we always say," May said.

"But of course I've thought about the final. I don't see how I couldn't because it's only natural.

"This won't just be the biggest game in St Johnstone's season, it'll be the biggest in the club's history. And if we win? Well, it's going to be the greatest day of my life. I honestly can't wait."

And of the award, May added: "It's a great honour.

"Obviously it's nice to get recognition personally, but this is really an award for the whole team. I couldn't be Young Player of the Year if I didn't have great guys round about me.

"St Johnstone have had an outstanding season, so it's credit to the players and the manager (Tommy Wright) as well."
