Young: O'Neill exit not to blame for Villa woes

Ashley Young insists there's no excuses for Aston Villa's dismal start to the season.

Young refuses to make Martin O'Neill's resignation, the installation of reluctant stand-in boss Kevin MacDonald or the departure of Milner an excuse.

He told The Sun: "There have been a few changes at the club and it was a shock the day the manager resigned. But there are always a lot of comings and goings in managerial positions and you still have to concentrate on your job, go out and perform.

"You can't let the managerial position affect your thinking.

"It's like when players get sold. You have to rebuild. We still have a great team spirit and everyone gets on with everyone. Whatever has happened recently doesn't change that.

"James Milner going is down to him. He goes with everyone's best wishes. We've Stephen Ireland to replace him, who's a great player, and a lot of youngsters coming through. We believe we can put things right."
