Young insists QPR new boys will fight for their spots

QPR summer signing Luke Young says that he, along with all of the other new players, will fight hard for their place in the first team.

The R's brought in a heap of new acquisitions late in the summer transfer window with the likes of Joey Barton, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Anton Ferdinand, Jason Puncheon and Armand Traore joining former Aston Villa right-back Young at Loftus Road.

Ahead of Monday night's home clash with Newcastle United, Young says it is important if everyone new to the playing group can bond quickly but stay respectful to the selection process.

"Quite a few players came in before the transfer window closure, so it's important that as a squad we get together and we get to know each other as soon as possible," he told the club's official website.

"It's also important to move on collectively to try and ensure we get some points on the board.

"We've got a great set of lads here.

"The lads who have been brought in will have to fight for a place in the side because the players who got us into this league in the first place are of a very good standard."

He added: "We need to quickly get a side together that can compete in this league.

"We're a bit better off than when the league started because we've got the three points on the board. That was important.

"It will feel like it's a fresh start on Monday against Newcastle."
