Hibernian stopper David Grof has quit Easter Road in a bid to win a move to England, reports The Scotsman. The 19-year-old Hungarian has failed to make the breakthrough that was expected.
Grof said: "I thought long and hard about leaving the club, but in the end I had to so I can play regular football.
"I've loved every minute here since I arrived in Scotland two-and-a-half years ago. Hibs have been absolutely brilliant for me and I can't thank everyone at the club enough for everything they have done, especially the goalkeeping coach, Gordon Marshall. He was fantastic and helped me a lot in my development.
"The under-19s coach Alistair Stevenson was superb to me and a great man to work for. But I knew I had to leave to play first team football. That's no disrespect to Hibs, but I wasn't getting a look in at that level and that's where I need to be playing.
"I was given a chance in the cup defeat to Morton, but after we were knocked out I wasn't picked anymore. That's not a dig at Mixu Paatelainen, he's a great coach and the right man for Hibs. He gave me my opportunity and I will always remember that. However, I have to quit the club and try and get playing top football regularly.
"But Hibs have been the best club for me. I made a lot of good friends, but I have to leave for my career. I'm very grateful the chairman (Rod Petrie] has allowed me to leave to pursue my dream."
