Aston Villa winger Ashley Young was delighted for Stewart Downing after his goal scoring performance in their Carling Cup triumph over Portsmouth.

Downing was outstanding on the night.

And Young told AVTV: "He was fantastic. He's been out for a long while - not that you could tell. He put on a great performance and managed to bag a goal too. He was just brilliant.

"Overall, it was a great team performance. Everyone knew their job and produced and that's what got us through.

"We wanted to get into that semi-final and we've done it. We're delighted."
