Luke Young is delighted for Middlesbrough pal Afonso Alves after his double against Manchester United on Sunday.

The England defender told the Evening Gazette: "We see Alves in training, and he is brilliant. It has taken him until now to get really sharp, but we have seen his progress, and felt that this was coming.

"These goals will give him the kick-start he needed, and he can give the team a big lift."
