Yorke insists Lambert must take responsibility for Villa woes

Former Aston Villa striker Dwight Yorke says Paul Lambert must take responsibility for the club's problems.

Yorke says his old club are in "desperate trouble".

"I've been concerned by Aston Villa for the last two years," he told talkSPORT. "That's no disrespect to Paul Lambert, who I thought was the right man to be handed the job, but he hasn't been able to take the club forward.

"Just look at where they have finished under him in the past two seasons, 15th and 16th position. It's just not good enough.

"I know what the fans are expecting, we've gone from being a top five team, to not even a top ten side. We're in the bottom half of the table.

"Villa are in desperate trouble. I'm beginning to lose my patience and I'm very concerned where they're going to finish this season.

"I'm not saying I want Lambert out but Villa are not making the progress I am expecting.

"When you look at the individuals there, they are not producing anything near what they should be.

"That's the manager's job and he's not getting the best out of that squad at this particular time."
