Yobo: I had to leave Everton to save Nigeria career

Fenerbahce defender Joseph Yobo says he had to leave Everton for the sake of his international career.

Yobo believes it was his eagerness to play for his country which eventually led to his Goodison departure on the last day of last summer's transfer window.

"At times in life you have to move on," Yobo, on-loan at Fener, said. "I spent eight seasons at Everton and I enjoyed every moment and I still have exciting memories of my stay there.

"But I guess my loyalty to my country's team did not go down well with some people there. Playing at the Nations Cup for Nigeria in 2010 was the reason I lost my place."
