Two goals from Yan Dhanda helped Liverpool defeat Manchester United U18s 2-1 yesterday.

United midfielder Indy Boonen struck for the hosts in the second-half.

Liverpool held a two-goal lead by the half-time break and were looking comfortable, but a hugely improved display from United's youngsters pushed the Anfield lads all the way and at the close the Reds could feel unlucky not to have gained at least a point from the game.

United's Under-18 manager Tommy Martin was unfortunately side-lined through illness and his place in charge of team matters was taken by Colin Little, the former Altrincham legend.

On the bench was Max Johnstone, who has been trialling with United from Fleetwood Town.
