Coach Frank Yallop is starting to look to next season for the San Jose Earthquakes after a 2-1 away loss to Houston Dynamo seriously dented their play off hopes.
Yallop said: "I would say there are some good positive things that come out of the season, and there are obviously some negatives that we need to sit down in the offseason and analyze what's been good and what's been bad.
"It's a work in progress when you're an expansion team and when you kind of start from scratch."
Yallop continued: "I think the guys battled their hardest tonight. We had a good effort in a difficult place to come and play, although we had an extra guy for 80 minutes. I think the Dynamo did a great job of packing it in and making it difficult for us."
San Jose stand four points off a play off spot with two games to play.
