Yakubu shook hands with Everton boss Moyes on immediate return

Everton boss Dave Moyes feels badly let down by AWOL striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

The Mirror says Moyes feels so badly let down by Yakubu because the striker made a promise directly to the manager that he would fly back to England as soon as Nigeria were eliminated.

Yakubu spoke with his manager in London before flying out for the competition in Ghana, and shook his boss's hand with an undertaking that he wouldn't delay his return.

When Nigeria lost to Ghana on Sunday, Everton booked the striker and team-mate Joseph Yobo on a flight to London that night. They both missed that flight, and also another one booked on Monday evening. Yobo got the flight on Tuesday after staying in touch with Moyes, but Yakubu disappeared, and Everton were unable to contact him. He also missed Wednesday's flight, before finally turning up in Nigeria on Thursday, where he eventually conceded to his manager's demands to return home directly.

It seems he travelled to Nigeria with some of his teammates at his president's request, and stayed on despite his promise to his English club.
