Xavi: England squad benefits from Man City boss Guardiola

Barcelona legend Xavi believes Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has had a big influence on England's World Cup squad.

Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Kyle Walker - who are all set to start against Tunisia in Monday's Group G opener - are fresh from winning the Premier League with Guardiola's Manchester City, along with fellow Three Lions squad member Fabian Delph.

“If you listen and want to learn, it is almost impossible not to improve as a player under Pep," Xavi told the Mirror.

“Last season, Manchester City were exceptional. Like Barcelona they play possession football, so I am sure the England team will benefit from that."

He added: “You look at a player like Sterling.

“He has always had raw talent – but under Pep he has become more clinical and taken his game to a different level."
