Barcelona matchwinner Xavi admitted last night's victory over Celtic came at a high cost.

He said after the Champions League win: "We paid a high price for this victory. Leo (Messi) was in extraordinary form. He is suffering. I hope that he recovers as quickly as possible and that he returns as he was before.

"It was a difficult game because they crowded the midfield. I am pleased with my goals, I am in good form. We will not concede any title, but we are better in the Champions League."

Barcelona president Joan Laporta also said: "I am sad, very sad for Leo. Also, for the team. He is a decisive player. We knew that he had some problems and for that reason he was rested at the Calderon.

"In the quarter-finals, any opponent will be difficult."
