Xabi Alonso admits Liverpool have to halt a run of five straight League defeats against defending champions Manchester United today.

The Spain midfielder said: "If we want to be champions this season, we cannot afford to lose any points at Anfield. We cannot fail in this type of game, especially at home.

"It would be sensational to beat the champions and an important demonstration that we can fight for the title."
