Keith Wyness has outlined the benefits of Everton's move to a new stadium in Kirkby, which is slated to happen in 2010.

Everton's plans for the new 50,000-seater stadium were approved by fans over the summer, although there was some resistance from those who did not like the idea of the club moving outside the city boundaries.

Chief executive Wyness maintains there was no other viable location closer to Goodison Park, and has assured fans the move will profit both the club and the city.

"I think what's going to evolve is the greater Liverpool area," he told Sky Sports News.

"The majority of Everton fans understood the need for this move and it opens up a whole new catchment area for us as well as servicing our existing fans.

"We could not identify any other site in the city that was deliverable and we tried very hard on that.

"The city boundaries are as they are at the moment but those sorts of things will come to be reviewed over time. We're only four miles away from Goodison so it's not as if we are moving too far away.

"This is the best option, it's a fantastic deal for the club and we are going to secure the next 100 years by moving to the new stadium."

While reluctant to confirm an exact date for the move, Wyness is hoping Everton will be in their new home for the start of the 2010/11 season.

He said: "We'll see how the whole planning application is reviewed and I hate to tie myself to dates, but it is very possible it will happen in 2010."
