Wrighty: Quality Mkhitaryan can thrive at friendly Arsenal

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has no doubts about the quality of new arrival Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian completed his move to north London on Monday evening in a sensational swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez move in the other direction to Manchester United.

"Mkhitaryan is a top player," he said on Sky Sports' The Debate. "Unfortunately we haven't seen the best of him at Manchester United. He is still trying to find his feet here.

"We know that Mourinho can get the hump with some players and it isn't a bad thing if he blows you out - we've seen it with De Bruyne and Salah - but you are hoping he can come to Arsenal, a much more friendlier environment, in terms of the manager and hopefully he can thrive in that.

"I have seen enough of him when he has played that he definitely has quality. The big risk is if he can get back to the form at Dortmund."

Wright believes Arsenal should have cashed in on Sanchez in the summer, and claims his former club are lucky to have landed a player of the calibre of Mkhitaryan in return.

"It was terrible business from Arsenal last summer," he added. "They should have let him go. Sanchez has had all the cards and Arsenal are very fortunate they are able to get Mkhitaryan.

"They have really fallen on their feet and will be happy for small mercies."
