Wright-Phillips: UEFA Cup can kickstart Man City glory

Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips says winning the UEFA Cup this season could lead the club into a golden era.

"Once everyone gets a taste of one trophy, it could set off an effect," said Wright-Phillips, back from England duty and raring to get stuck into his dad's old club Arsenal on Saturday.

"People will get the hunger, and just want more and more.

"To win it would be a step in the right direction, especially with all the games we have been through.

"We have made it hard for ourselves but when our backs have been against the wall we still seem to come out on top."

While Wright-Phillips urged patience, he felt a challenge to Manchester United's dominance is not out of the question.

"It's unlimited to how far the club could go with the people around it and the people in charge, including the boss," said the Blues ace, who is promoting the new EA Sports game Football Academy.

"We could go a long way for a long time. It's possible, but to get to the heights United get is something that might happen in my time or way after.

"I do think we will be able to challenge them for the league, but everyone has to be patient."
