Wright-Phillips hopes QPR move leads to England recall

QPR winger Shaun Wright-Phillips hopes his move from Manchester City can lead to an England recall.

He has no hard feelings towards coach Fabio Capello about his omission but hopes starring for his new club will earn him a recall.

"I will always hope to get back in the England squad," he told the London Evening Standard. "Having had a taste of it, you want more. Hopefully I can perform well for QPR and put myself back in the position where I can't be overlooked. I am setting my sights on Euro 2012 but if I do well for the club then it is up to the boss.

"Mr Capello has always said to me I need to be playing, which is understandable. If I was in the squad having not played and there are others who are doing well but miss out, then I don't think it's fair or right on them. The boss was right and I respect him for that. It was one of my motivations for moving because if I am to get back in the England squad then I need to be playing.

"I can't wait to get started at QPR. I was getting frustrated during the international break and have had to wait to get a game. The manager played a big part in me coming here. He was always on the phone to my agent and, at first, I was putting him off but he kept pursuing and that just showed how much he wanted me to come.

"His man-management style reminds me of [former City boss] Joe Royle, just in the way he banters with the players and how much he enjoys the game. We can achieve a lot under him this season. We can definitely stay up. If we stick together we will be fine."
