Shaun Wright-Phillips is delighted with his decision to stay with Chelsea.
Last summer he could have joined Carling Cup final opponents Tottenham after they and West Ham made firm offers for the 26-year-old.
He said: "I read the stuff in the papers but I made it clear to the club and they also made it clear to me that I was staying.
"I sat down with Chelsea officials and they told me that they didn't want me to go. So that was it, end of story.
"I was well aware that I had a fight on my hands to get into the first team so I just had to get on with it.
"Nothing is still guaranteed. I'm not untouchable at Chelsea - no one is these days because of the rotation system used.
"In fact because players are rotated, you have to be able to play three different ways.
"If you start there is a particular way, if you come off the bench, it's a another approach - and if your team is winning say 1-0, it's different yet again.
"Football has moved on yet again. It used to be just about 11 players, then it was 11 players plus the subs and now it is about rotation.
"I've been taught that when you want something badly, you stick at it until you get it.
"That's the way I've been brought up and the way that I'll stay. I know what I want in life. I've signed a long contract with Chelsea and I signed it because I wanted to do something here. That something is holding down a first-team place and helping the club achieve things - which I now feel I am doing."
