World record fee not reason for Pogba’s poor Man Utd start - Sutton

The world-record £89million spent on Paul Pogba is not the reason that Frenchman has started in such a mediocre fashion for Manchester United.

That is according to Chris Sutton who is of the belief that the 23-year-old has been played out of position since returning to Old Trafford from Italian giants Juventus.

Blackburn Rovers great Sutton wrote in the Daily Mail: “The holding role is not the one I thought Pogba would play when United spent £89m on him.

“But it is not the pressure of the world-record fee getting to him.

“Playing him in a holding two subdues him, so United would be better off playing him higher up the field — in a midfield with (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan and Michael Carrick.

“Pogba is an all-rounder so can adapt but Mourinho needs to take the shackles off him and let him play his natural game. Pogba is playing to Mourinho's style at the moment but it clearly doesn't suit him."
