England World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst believes the nation's chances will be boosted by Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's enforced lay-off.
Despite making a faster-than-expected return for Manchester United this week, Rooney again had to come off against Bayern Munich. However, his manager Sir Alex Ferguson insisted the injury was "not serious" and should not hinder his World Cup chances.
Hurst admits that is a relief.
"Like everyone else, I was glad to hear his latest injury was not too serious," Hurst said. "It's amazing these days all the time and exposure devoted to it."
Rooney is now set to miss another United game - at Blackburn this weekend.
Hurst added: "It might not be that good for Manchester United fans, but England fans will probably think if he gets a little rest now he can return fresh for the World Cup campaign.
"He is a special player but even in my day, the World Cup was not won by one player, or even 11 players but a whole squad and I think we now have a strong squad of players.
"I think the climate out there will suit us and keeping everyone fit now will be key to us doing well."
