Thailand national team coach Chanvit Phalajivin said Wednesday he had resigned after failing to get the national team through the second qualifying round for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Phalajivin told wire agencies he had submitted his resignation to the Football Association of Thailand on Tuesday, after a series of humiliating defeats left Thailand last in their group.
"I want to take responsibility," said Phalajivin. "The fans do not believe in me." Thailand failed to claim any victories in their six World Cup qualifying matches, earning just one point with a draw against Bahrain.
They lost all their other matches in the group pitting them against Japan, Oman and Bahrain.
The Thai team have never qualified for the World Cup.
