Omar Al Somah scored an 85th minute penalty as Syria kept their 2018 World Cup hopes alive with a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their play-off against Australia.
Robbie Kruse had opened the scoring for Australia just before the break but the deciding leg takes place in Sydney next Tuesday (kick-off 10:00 BST).
