WORLD CUP 2018: Colombia defeat sends Poland packing

Colombia have thrashed Poland 3-0 in Kazan to keep alive their hopes of progressing through to the knockout rounds.

Yerry Mina's header gave Los Cafeteros the lead with five minutes remaining in the first-half.

James Rodriguez's perfect cross allowed the Barcelona defender to rise above Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and nod the ball into the back of the net.

With 70 minutes on the clock, Colombia captain Radamel Falcao scored his first ever World Cup goal to double his side's lead.

The Monaco striker latched onto James Rodriguez's through pass before his outside of the foot strike beat Szczesny.

Juan Cuadrado capped off a magnificent night by scoring the Colombians third goal. The Juventus winger finishing off a sweeping counter-attack with poise and precision.

Poland star Robert Lewandowski, playing in his first World Cup, was kept largely ineffective for the 90 minutes, a lack of service meant his only real chance of the game came in the final few minutes.

The win means Colombia are now one point behind Group H leaders Senegal and Japan.

Jose Pekerman's men will face Senegal in their final group game on Thursday.

For Poland, their first World Cup appearance since 2006 ends at the group stage.
