Manchester United chiefs are drawing up plans to bring Real Madrid star Gareth Bale back to the Premier League.
The Daily Star says Real are already fighting to keep Wales hero Bale, 27, and talks are underway about a new five-year contract on wages of £12m-a-year.
The Champions League holders hope to reach an agreement soon, which would mean a two-year extension on Bale's current contract, to scupper United's plan.
Paul Pogba made a world-record £89m move to United from Juventus in this transfer window.
And next year's Old Trafford target is wide midfielder Bale, 27, previously the most expensive player in the world at £86m.
But the Pogba fee would be topped if United could land Bale, who would become the first £100m player.
United believe they could have an ace to play in that their kit sponsors, Adidas, also have a contract with Bale.
And Adidas played a significant role in United's sensational signing of Pogba.
