Wondolowski leads San Jose Earthquakes in record-breaking night

In-form striker Chris Wondolowski led San Jose Earthquakes to a record-breaking night against Chivas USA on Wednesday.

The 27-year old netted his second hat-trick of the season in the 3-0 home win to go equal with LA Galaxy's Edson Buddle on the MLS Golden Boot list with 17 goals ahead of the final match of the regular season this weekend.

Wondolowski's first goal of the night saw him tie with Ronald Cerritos on 15 goals for the most in a season by a Quakes player before he surpassed that total which was set in 1999.

Wondolowski has also scored San Jose's last nine goals which ties him for the all-time Major League Soccer lead in that category with Carlos Ruiz, who scored nine straight for the Galaxy from 2002-2003. He also tied Ruiz for the all-time lead for game-winning goals in a season with nine.

As a team, San Jose notched a club record 13 shutouts (clean sheets) in a season, beating the record set by the 2005 team.

San Jose need a win in their final match of the regular season at Kansas City Wizards on the weekend to confirm a play-offs position.
