Wolves winger Kightly: Missing promotion hurt so much

Wolves winger Michael Kightly admits missing promotion last season though injury hurt him.

Kightly has returned to the first team in the last week and hopes to prove himself Premiership class.

He told Sky Sports: "Obviously I missed the last six games (but) I played in 40 games, started in 40 games, so to miss the last six was devastating and I remember the day that we got promoted. It was quite an emotional time for me to be fair and one that I was gutted to miss, that's the way it goes but at the end of the day we got promoted as a squad and I enjoyed the celebrations as much as I could.

"When you play 40 games and you work so hard to get to the top of the league and try and get promotion and then you miss the final bit which is the best bit, it's tough, but I've got to look at the bigger picture. Although it was upsetting and disappointing, we still got there, we got to the Premier League and I was chuffed to bits."

On seeing action against Everton, Kightly added: "I'd like to (now) play a few games on the trot and get my fitness up. I definitely think it's a start for me. As I said, I'll get stronger and better the more games I play hopefully."
