Wolves Ward harbours Republic of Ireland ambitions

Irishman Stephen Ward admits he has already achieved a life-long dream by playing in the Premier League with Wolves. And the 24-year-old Dubliner has another New Year wish in his sights - to represent his country at senior level, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Ward has so far only earned under-21 and B honours with the Republic of Ireland but dreams of being called up into Giovanni Trapattoni's squad.

"Playing for Ireland is still something I'd like to happen, but it's the last thing on my mind at the moment," admitted Ward.

"I'm only just back playing from injury and the most important thing for me is to stay fit, get back in the side and do as well as I can for Wolves.

"To be playing in the Premier League is a dream come true and if I can keep playing and play well then, hopefully, one day I'll get the shout.

"But all I have on my mind is the next game and to get as many points on the board as possible."
