Wolves threaten Stoke deal for Sunderland's Collins

Wolves have made a late move to trump Stoke City for Sunderland defender Danny Collins.

The Sentinel says the signing of Collins from Sunderland appeared to be progressing smoothly after Stoke conducted advanced negotiations with the 29-year-old centre half-cum-left back yesterday.

But there was a late fly in the ointment when Wolves manager Mick McCarthy, the man taking Collins from Chester to Sunderland five years ago, appeared to express an interest in the former Welsh international.

"Talks are continuing with Collins," said chairman Peter Coates. "One never knows for sure what deadline day will bring because that's the nature of the beast, but I can say there may be a possibility of a loan player coming in. We shall just have to see."
