Wolves signing Mike Williamson is happy to have left Newcastle United.

Having been sent to Molineux at the end of last year, Williamson was told to return to St James' Park after a spate of defensive injuries.

However, within days of coming back, he picked up a hamstring injury which delayed his January switch to Wolves.

When asked if that had been frustrating by Wolves' official TV channel, Williamson said: “Yeah of course. I thoroughly enjoyed playing and we had some good results.

“I just wanted to build on that. I loved my time here so that's why I'm here now. It's great to be back.

“For me, it was just about getting fit.

“I have been injured and it's always difficult sorting out details (for his new contract) when you are not playing.

“You want to be out there and showing people what you can do."
