Wolves legend Bull: Man Utd's Rooney already better than Lineker, Shearer

Wolves legend Steve Bull rates Manchester United star Wayne Rooney as already a better player than England heroes Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker.

Lineker notched 48 goals in 80 caps and Shearer got 30 in 63 appearances just ahead of Rooney's 25 goals in 57 games.

Former England striker Bull told the Birmingham Mail: "You ask anyone and they'll say he's been the best over the last 30 years. He is doing it for his club and for his country. As a player he is frightening. He's not an old-fashioned centre-forward but the way he goes back and fetches the ball and runs at defenders is absolutely unbelievable.

"Now he's scoring with his head he is the all-round player.

"Lineker was a six-yard box man who would score goals left, right and centre in the area, Shearer was an 18-yard man who would smash them in from anywhere, whereas Rooney is an all round goalscorer.

"He is like the two of them put together. He'll score inside the six-yard box, inside the penalty area and outside it. I can't think of anyone as good as him in an England side.

"It won't be easy for Wolves on Saturday but United have got AC Milan next week and Fulham on the Saturday. I think Fergie will rest him on one of the games - and I just hope that is against Wolves."
