Mick McCarthy has admitted Wolves will not be pursuing the signature of Middlesbrough defender David Wheater after accepting Premiership rivals Bolton are clear favourites.

The English Championship centre-half is currently in talks with the Trotters, and McCarthy feels the 23 year old is destined for The Reebok.

"I think you'll probably find he'll end up at Bolton and that will be great business for them," he said.

Wheater is yet to finalise his move and Boro have confirmed that although not playing him at Burton Albion in the FA Cup last week, he could be involved for their crucial Championship clash at Bristol City this weekend.
