Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann is eyeing a spot in Bob Bradley's USA World Cup squad. The 37-year old shot-stopper is hoping he can be selected, just like he was in 2006 (although he was an unused sub) in Germany, but understands he has some stiff competition despite the fact Aston Villa's Brad Friedel is no longer in the international game.
"I'm trying to squeeze into the squad for this summer because we've got a lot of good keepers, with Tim Howard and Brad Guzan," said Hahnemann.
"Brad Friedel has now retired from the national side though, so it would be great to go one more time.
"I have only been to a World Cup on one occasion, in Germany, and I've always been kept out of the side by top-class keepers.
"The likes of Friedel and (Kasey) Keller have made the competition for places always intense.
"I'm hungry to play at that level and I would love to be in South Africa this summer.
"It could be a great tournament for us, with England in the group stages, and also the possibility of facing Germany in the second round, which would be great for me with my family being German.
"I just need to focus on helping Wolves stay up this season and hopefully that will impress a few people ahead of this summer's big event."
