Wolves Edwards: Lesser teams closing gap on big clubs

Wolves midfielder David Edwards thinks the lower teams are becoming more competitive when pitched against the top club's. Edwards netted the winner as Wolves saw off Manchester City at Molineux on Saturday, following on from West Brom's win at Arsenal and draw at Manchester United and Blackpool's victory at Liverpool.

He told the Express and Star: "I think (the big teams) are more beatable this season than any other season because of the intensity of their fixture list.

"The lower teams are really closing the gap on how good they are.

"In the past you had the bottom three or four teams who would never get a result against a big team. But I think the Premier League is now getting a bit closer and that is good for us."

He added: "We got a good performance on Tuesday against Manchester United in the Carling Cup and that showed to us that we can go there on Saturday and get a result. The boys are very confident that we can get something.

"Saturday was a massive relief and three massive points for us.

"If we had lost we would have gone to Old Trafford really cut adrift at the bottom so it was nice to get three points.

"It's nice to get some points to match the performances because in the last three or four games we have played well and not picked up the results."
