Wolves' De Vries aiming to push Hennessey 'to his limits'

Wolves goalkeeper Dorus De Vries is hoping he can push current number one Wayne Hennessey all the way as he targets a place in the first team.

Manager Mick McCarthy will hand the former Swansea City man his Wolves debut in tomorrow night's Carling Cup clash Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium and De Vries is planning on putting in a impressive first shit fir the Molineux club.

"I need to do everything I can to be ready and to try to push Wayne to his limits," he told Express & Star.

"I want to put in a good performance for myself, the fans and the manager and show I'm ready for a league game."

After a strong start to the Premier League season, McCarthy will make plenty of changes to his line-up for the trip to the East Midlands but De Vries is confident that whoever is deployed can do a good job for the club.

"The season has started really well. It will still be a very strong team that starts tonight's game and that shows the strength in depth you need," he added.

"There's no doubt the Premier League is the priority, but the Carling Cup and FA Cup offer the chance to make progress in those competitions.

"While it's only the second round and we know it will be a tough game at Northampton, who's to say we can't progress in the competition?"
