Wolves chairman Morgan convinced exciting times ahead

Wolves chairman Steve Morgan is convinced good times are ahead after their Great Escape last season.

Wolves needed a late goal from Stephen Hunt against Blackburn to edge out Birmingham in the battle to survive.

Morgan told Press Association Sport: "Everyone says the second year is harder than the first. Given how scary it was on the last day of the season, it feels like we've come backwards.

"In fact, we ended up with 40 points. We only had 38 the year before. It's just the whole league saw everyone beating everyone. Everything sandwiched up.

"It may not have felt like we were making progress and we were 15th the year before and 17th last season.

"But in terms of points, we actually did and in any other season 40 points could have taken you to the lower part of mid-table respectability and got you 12th-13th.

"That would have been highly respectable for a second season."

Morgan added: "What we've got to do is try and kick on from there and do our best to improve again.

"In my first year here, we just missed out on the play-offs, the second year we won the Championship.

"The third year we did really well in staying in the Premier League and last season, despite finishing 17th, we did kick on in points terms.

"We've got to kick on again."
