Wolves boss McCarthy unhappy Gerrard available for Liverpool today

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy admits he wishes Steven Gerrard wasn't available for Liverpool today.

Just to add to Wolves' challenge, Gerrard is ready for a Premier League return after a Carling Cup run out in the 2-1 win at Brighton.

McCarthy said: "To get a win at Anfield was fabulous, it was one of the results of last season.

"But they've got some fabulous players and they started the season superbly."

Asked if he was pleased that England midfielder Gerrard is fit, McCarthy's reply was laced with more than a hint of sarcasm.

He said: "Oh ay, thrilled. I wonder if they can get Souness, Rushy and Dalglish back as well.

"And I'm delighted they had the cup so Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel can get past bans.

"I don't want to go there and win, I want them to have everyone back and all their good players in."
