Wolves boss McCarthy says fans boredom their biggest threat

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy says the biggest threat to their Premiership existence is boredom!

McCarthy fears fans could become fed up with consistent mid-table finishes which would force the club to over-reach.

He said: "First and foremost, I'm a realist. I'm not happy finishing 15th, like we did last year, but I'd take it.

"Fairytales? They still exist. Blackpool are living proof of that because they got to the Premier League. And you could say the same about Burnley last season.

"But the Premier League is also the place where hopes turn to dust and dreams get dashed."

That's why McCarthy has warned against his club chasing a fast buck, insisting progress at Molineux has to be incremental.

"Remember Charlton Athletic," he said. "They were finishing tenth, ninth, tenth in the Premier League and their fans got bored, insisting they wanted sexier football. Now look at where they are.

"But don't for a minute think I'm happy finishing 15th year after year. We all aspire to greater things. But I'm aware we won't just spring into the top eight and that these days, league positions are largely based on the income clubs take in from shirt and seat sales."
