Wolves boss McCarthy rues the penalties that got away

After keeping a dignified silence, Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is now admitting his team have been denied two penalties in two games, reports the Birmingham Mail. "I didn't bitch about it at the weekend (against Portsmouth), but we are very much reliant on someone giving us a penalty when they're as nailed on as ours was," he said.

"I could have understood if it was a contentious decision, but I'm talking about one on Saturday that was as clear as the nose on my face."

McCarthy's side might also have had one for a foul in their clash against Sunderland last week.

"The one against Sunderland was also clear - Michael Turner went through the back of Kevin Doyle, it was a penalty," he said.

"I haven't whinged much about it because, if we'd defended properly, we might have been talking about a 0-0 and I'd have been more justified in whingeing about a decision.

"I should be able to rely on referees and linesmen, though, to get these decisions correct." Against Pompey, the assistant referee might also have given the referee some help.

"He got it monumentally wrong," he added. "It wasn't a hard decision. Everyone has seen it and people on the TV even said what a good save it was!

"As soon as they turn around and point to their chest, you know they're as guilty as Crippen.

"The linesman should have given it but we can talk until we're blue in the face about it. It won't change anything now."
