Winger Matt Jarvis, 24, is on the radar of both Liverpool and Everton, while striker Steven Fletcher is wanted by West Ham.

American keeper Marcus Hahnemann has also been targeted by MLS side Portland Timbers.

But McCarthy said: "The only way we will be able to dig our way out of trouble is with our best players.

"If anyone comes in for Jarvo or anyone else, they can Foxtrot Oscar."
