Wolves boss: The end justifies the means

Mick McCarthy is a big believer that the Stoke approach will keep his Wolves team in the Premier League, reports the Birmingham Mail. Tony Pulis' men have recorded back-to-back mid-table finishes and head to Molineux tomorrow boosted by the capture of £8 million Sunderland frontman Kenwyne Jones.

"I admire the way they've gone about it," he said.

"Getting up and then staying up for two seasons. They play a certain way and are very good at it and it has enabled them to stay in the league for two years.

"I don't hear anyone from Stoke complaining about it.

"It's about staying in the league whatever it takes.

"We managed to do it and we only scored 32 goals but we didn't concede too many so we were hard to beat.

"Were we always pleasing on the eye? Probably not but there came a stage when we had to stay in the league.

"It's about doing that and not worrying about what anyone else says. Whether they like you, don't like you, or what you bring to the party."

Wolves are again one of the favourites for the drop with McCarthy relishing the underdog tag.

"It takes all sorts to make up a league and we can't all be Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool,'' he added.

"Liverpool even won a few one-nillers. Get a goal up with two sitting midfield players - there are all sorts of ways to win games and there are all sorts of ways for teams to stay in the league.

"Stoke are one type and we are another - there are 20 different styles in the league.

"It's an eclectic mix. Stoke had a great time last season. We both know each other - Tony will know my team and I know his so there will be no surprises but it will be a really tough game."
