Wolfsburg's Schurrle avoided Chelsea deadline day disappointment

Andre Schurrle has admitted to feeling anxious in the final day of the winter transfer window.

The 22-year old German winger was eager to leave Chelsea before the close of the January period and it appeared early on that he would land a move back to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.

Former Bayer Leverkusen ace Schurrle had agreed personal terms with the Lower Saxony outfit but was waiting for Chelsea to settle on a transfer fee.

In the end, the World Cup winner landed a £24million shift to the Wolkswagen Arena but not before some nervy moments at the transfer deadline drew near on Monday night.

"Towards the end, everything did draw out somewhat, which was stressful for me and really frayed my nerves," the attacker told reporters.

"Now I am finally at VfL Wolfsburg and I am very, very happy about that.

"It wasn't my first transfer, so I was aware that these things can take longer than expected before all parties have agreed on the terms.

"That considered, I was a little tense, because I really wanted to make the move to Wolfsburg. Despite that though, I was always pretty convinced that it would work out in the end."

Schurrle added: "It was my express wish to return to Germany. I had offers from Spain and France too but, at the end of the day, I really wanted to return to Germany."
