Wolfsburg chief Allofs: We envied Arsenal signing Bendtner

Wolfsburg chief executive Klaus Allofs has spoken of Nicklas Bendtner after his contract was terminated this week.

Bendtner's contract at the Volkswagen Arena was cancelled with immediate effect after months in which off-field issues, including occasions when the striker arrived late to training, hampered his opportunities to impress on the pitch.

Whilst Allofs spoke glowingly of Bendtner's natural ability he was far less impressed with his attitude.

“Signing Bendtner was an experiment and it was not a successful one," Allofs told Kicker.

“Bendtner was a gamble worth taking. He was an extraordinary talent. We were envious of Arsenal when Nicklas was still a young player.

“But talent alone is not enough. Nicklas is a divisive figure, he is hurting his own career.

“Of course, we are upset and disappointed that he was unable to fulfil his potential at Wolfsburg."
